“工业4.0人工智能实验室”应用人工智能和高性能计算(HPC)技术,搭建和完善一个国际领先的、学科交叉融合的“工业4.0智能设计协同创新平台”,面向我国提升制造业价值链的系列问题,加深人工智能技术的研究,开发一个智能优化设计的高性能计算系统。本实验室内培外引,研究怎样更好地协助东莞产业转型和“中国创造”,实现国际领先的、面向产业化的创造及应用研发。

实验室主要研究计算机自动设计与创造,以提高制造产品的知识含量和附加值。针对正在兴起的“第四次工业革命”中的批量定制和按需设计的技术难点,开拓国际领先的智能化产品创新、创造研究的自动最优设计,突破产业创新的瓶颈、需求无序性的限制,实现智能识别与优化来辅助产品设计、创新及服务。协同创新平台在云端可以进行大数据分布式设计,利用虚拟现实技术辅助集中样机成型及异地分布式智能制造,融合物流网的全局营销和物联网的自动服务,协助产品和服务“从群众中来,到群众中去”,以提高总体设计及生产的性能、效率和客户体验,为我国发展“中国创造”和“中国智造”的科研与市场前景打下国际领先的基础而努力。

The mission of Industry 4.0 AI Laboratory (i4AI Lab) is to develop an Industry 4.0 Innovation and Intelligent Design Platform, sustain it at Dongguan University of Technology and apply it to local, national and international industrial practice to benefit economic development. The vision is to set an international research agenda in AI for design and manufacture in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” for societal wellbeing and humanity.

Industry 4.0 (i4) stands for the fourth, and the first a-priori engineered, ‘Industrial (R)evolution’, which aims at upgrading the entire manufacturing value chain, and transforming the factory floor to a ‘mass innovation center’. All trends of i4 have in common the integration of several features as a response to challenges of computerized decision making and big data, which are proliferated via the Internet and cloud computing and has led to a global race in intelligent design, innovation, and creativity. Even though, i4 research and development (R&D) so far is mostly spearheaded by manufacturers, such as Siemens, and thus lacks an academic perspective and an ‘intelligent design’ tool commensurate with such a race. Clearly, ‘market informatics’ should be used to close the loop of i4 in customized smart manufacturing and smart products through life.

Industry 4.0 AI Laboratory focuses on critical insight into transforming the conventional computeraided design (CAD) to computer-automated design (CAutoD) and its enabling tool artificial and computational intelligence, which aims to facilitate i4 with smarter and faster responses, lower costs, better fitting to customer needs and wants, and an alternative towards on-demand production. The Laboratory will utilize artificial evolution and virtual reality to achieve manufacture-ready digital prototypes of increased innovation and creativity for enhanced competitiveness.
